36 years later. Maradona's goal ball provokes English indignation
The famous goal scored by Argentine football legend the late Diego Maradona at the 1986 World Cup returned to the forefront again, with the ball in which the goal was made for sale at auction, the ownership of which now belongs to a Tunisian referee.
Special bidding for the sale of the ball in which Maradona scored his goal at the Mexico World Cup is scheduled to begin next November, but those wishing to buy the ball can register from October 28, according to Graham Bad, London's auction website.
The ball is expected to be sold for up to $3.4 million.
This news brought back to the surface the controversy that accompanied that goal.
Former England player Gary Lineker, who was the top scorer at the 1986 World Cup, attacked the referee, who counted Maradona's goal against England in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Lineker's attack came after Tunisian referee Ali Bennasser decided to sell the ball.
Lineker joins English nationals who expressed their indignation at selling this ball at an auction in London.
The England player wondered how the Tunisian referee had acquired the ball.
But the Tunisian referee said earlier that this ball is part of the history of world football and this is the time to share it with the world.
This discontent comes despite the fact that an English player sold Maradona's shirt 6 months ago, after exchanging the customary shirts between the players at the end of the game, with the aim of memorializing it, for a sum exceeding $ 7 million.
