40 years after its release... A new version of Michael Jackson's Thriller

In November 2022, Sony Music celebrates 40 years of producing the late pop singer Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

According to the announcement made last May, the release will be filled with surprises for Michael Jackson's fans, including some songs on which Jackson worked and did not actually air on the old album.

The titles of the songs will be revealed one by one before 18 November.

The album, "Thriller 40", commemorates one of the most successful albums, has won 8 "Grammys", changed the limits of pop music, and sold more than 100 million copies since its release on 30 November 1982 to date.

Song with scary lyrics

The first song, "Thriller," which includes frightening lyrics about night creatures that terrify her victim, was nevertheless a great success reinforced by the terrifying depiction of the song, with Jackson hiring director John Landis who directed "An American Werewolf In London" to turn Jackson into a wolf in the song. Vincent Price, the actor known for his roles in horror films, also listed the lyrics at the end of the song, as well as his evil intermittent laughs.

Quincy Jones, the entire producer of the song and album, says he always imagined the voice of actor Vincent Price at the end of the song but did not know exactly how it might happen.

The basic idea was that he would speak only some terrifying sentences as if he were one of his famous roles, but the night before the shoot, producer Quincy Jones asked song author Rod Temperton to write Vincent Price's own sentences and not leave it to improvise.

Long song or short film

The video was a major artistic event at the time of the song's release, providing elaborate dances and suitable costumes, as well as establishing the concept of a long video or short film to film the song.

The video won the best performance and best dance design and was selected by the audience as the best show at the MTV Music Video Awards. The 14-minute video was classified as an already short film, as Michael Jackson wished, writing in his 1988 memoir, "I want to be a pioneer in this new artistic medium and make the best short musical films."

Iconic Dance

Designed by Michael Jackson and choreographer Michael Peters, the iconic dance moves are still popular in modern pop culture. In 2006, in Toronto, Canada, 62 people gathered to revive the song's dance, which turned into an annual Thrill the World event at which dancers meet each year to revive the dance.

In 2008, the company released its first special release on the occasion of 25 years of the album, "Thriller 25", and was ranked second in the Best Albums questionnaire for Billboard music magazine. Although it sold 166 thousand copies in its week of release, it was not eligible for first place because the magazine was written by an old album, and first place was limited to new albums only.

A new life for singers

This is not the first time that a singing album has been released after the singer's death. Death may occur during the recording of the album and the album may be re-released in tribute to the singer or celebration of music, as happened with the late rapper Tupac Shakur's album The Don Killuminati.

The album was recorded and released in a record 3 days, and Shakur wanted to draw attention to alternative music, and indeed the album topped sales just two months after Shakur's shooting death in Vegas in 1996, and the emotionally charged and angry lyrics helped shape the consciousness of a new generation of rap and hip-hop fans.

After the Beatles split, guitarist George Harrison released his most creative song when he became a solo.

After Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001, and thanks to the efforts of his son, Danny Harrison, and his friend, Jeff Lynn, Harrison released an album entitled "Brainwashed". The album contains his best long single, which made him like a musical record highlighting his artistic talent and sense of humor that characterized his songs.
